A cruiser race that actually requires some speed
The premise is simple: there’s a $25,000 diamond ring hidden in downtown Sacramento. There are more than 400 teams ready to look for it—on cruiser bicycles. Well not everybody will be on cruisers, but we’re guessing the most savvy participants will be, meaning it’s a safe bet that the rock is going home with someone on a Schwinn.
The Race for the Rock is a high-tech treasure hunt, basically. With clues and riddles texted straight to participants cell phones. Robin Little, owner of Bikes and Bites and subject of a Kickstand Magazine feature, is helping organize the event, with the hopes that 500 teams will sign up by tomorrow morning. If that happens, there’ll be more than 1,000 bicycle riders looking for a Rogers Jewelry Company diamond in this charity event.
Proceeds from the $25 entry will be given to the Sacramento Food Bank.
