Insecure location

By James Burrus

It’s three rides into the 2009 Denver Cruisers‘ season and I’m embarrassed to again show up on my 10-year-old mountain bike. It’s my faithful commuter with road slicks, a Sumo wrestler squeaky horn and J.R.”Bob” Dobbs-head sticker on the top tube. But it’s so out of place among the vintage rides and sweeeeet new cruisers from Nirve and Felt. I have some serious cruiser envy. I just hope my daily ride doesn’t hear about my disloyalty.

What kind of dweeb wears a necktie on a cruiser ride? Are they trying to show off the fact that they have a cubicle job? That they get paid more than the rest of us? Do they think they’re cool? Can somebody explain this to me?

Warning to girls wearing heels on a cruiser bike. DON’T stick the heel through the pedal! I broke BOTH heels off my red pumps.

Woah! The Circle of Death is a great way to sober up. Seriously. It works every time.

  1. I love the Denver Cruiser ride, it makes me feel like a liitle kid. My new cruiser is so pretty and fun to ride. I finally have the nerve to enter the Circle of Death and stay in there!

  2. we are riders ourselves who believe in the philosophy that riding your bike is a great way to socialize, get some great exercise and clear your head, and the rest will have to be solved by liquor.

  3. i say wear what u like and do what makes you happy. some people look at my bikes and think they are silly and oh yes i have no sense of fashion at all. i am tragically un hip other than the cool bikes i love to build and ride. as for showing up at a cruiser ride on something other than a cruiser ride what u got if thats all you can afford. but cruisers are much much mo’ kool.

  4. I ride 16 miles to work every day and have always done it on my road bike or mountain bike, two weeks ago I purchased a new cruiser and have started using it as my commute. WOW! to all you roadies out there, slow down a bit and really discover the joy of commuting… don’t know if I will ever ride the road bike again… and as for apparel… Newly discovered love for cargo shorts and tank…..
